ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appealed to the international community to contribute to the resolution of the Kashmir dispute and the advancement of peaceful relations with India.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) reported that Mr. Sharif made these remarks during a meeting with Neil Hawkins, the new Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan.
The following is a quote from the prime minister: Peaceful relations based on equality, justice, and mutual respect are what India and Pakistan want. In this setting, it was absolutely necessary to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant UNSC resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people in a fair and peaceful manner.
“The international community must play a facilitative role in this regard, as it was essential for lasting peace and stability in South Asia,” the prime minister stated.
Mr. Sharif also emphasized Pakistan’s ongoing cooperation with the international community in light of the situation in Afghanistan, especially since August of last year.
The Australian high commissioner expressed her sincere gratitude to Pakistan for facilitating the safe evacuation of their own and other Afghan nationals from Afghanistan and her desire to further strengthen bilateral ties. He thanked the prime minister for welcoming him and expressed his determination to broaden and diversify the existing relationship between Pakistan and Australia.
